Bicycle Riding

(to tune of Oliver’s Army by Elvis Costello)

Don’t start me talking

I could talk all night

About how bike riding

puts the world to right

You could help save the nation

As you pedal to your occupation.

Chorus

Bicycle riding is here to stay.

Bicycle riding’s not just for play.

And we would rather commute by bike than any other way.

Those harried car commuters

They never laugh or smile

Putting us all in danger

As they eke out one more mile

Only takes one careless driver –

One more widow and one less biker.

chorus

Bicycle riding is here to stay

Bicycle riding’s not just for play

And we would rather commute by bike than any other way.

transition

The bus will cost a buck.

Parking takes lots of luck.

You could be downtown by  eight

Passing the cars -who will all be late

And the trucks and the taxis and the buses have to wait…..

And there’s no danger

When you are not alone.

And it could be arranged –

just get on the telephone.

Call your bicycle coalition

To be joined on your first mission.

Chorus

Bicycle riding is here to stay.

Bicycle riding’s not just for play.

And we would rather commute by bike than any other way.
